Five Facts about Indian Air Force


1. Indian Air Force is the fourth largest air force in the world. The Hindon Air Force Station located in Ghaziabad, UP is the largest in Asia.
2. Indian Air Force IAF i.e., Indian Air Force has played an important role in various operations. These include Operation Poomalai, Vijay, Meghdoot and others.
3. The Indian Air Force also works in peacekeeping missions with the IAF United Nations.


4. The Indian Air Force was earlier known as the Royal Indian Air Force. Although this name remained till independence. After independence, the word Royal was dropped.

5. The IAF comprises a large number of women fighter pilots, women navigators and women officers, who render their services to the Indian Air Force. Even the Rafale fleet of the Indian Air Force has a woman fighter pilot.

6. The Indian Air Force has always participated in relief operations during natural calamities in the country. These include the Gujarat cyclone (1998), the tsunami (2004) and the floods in North India. However, the IAF created a world record by rescuing stranded civilians during the floods in Uttarakhand. The mission was named 'Rahat', during which the Indian Air Force rescued around 20,000 people.
